Northstar California | Tahoe Star Gazing Tours

Tahoe Star Gazing Tours

Come experience the starry sky above Northstar California!  Join star guide and poet Tony Berendsen, the President of the Nevada Science Coalition, for a unique and educational night under the stars.  Every tour is as different as the starry skies above however each will include a poem reading, a fun space quiz with prizes, a laser tour of the stars and constellations and a telescopic viewing.

Plus, all guests will receive a commemorative flashlight.  So bring a child’s curiosity and plenty of questions for an evening of wonder and awe.

Due to the group size please refrain from bringing your own telescopes.  We'll have two telescopes, binoculars and a Celestron Sky Scout for participants to use in order to get a great view of the night sky!

*Subject to cancellation due to weather.

Meeting Times + Location

All tours from July 22 through September 10 will meet at the top of the Highlands Gondola at 8:15 p.m. Please allow yourself 10 - 15 minutes to ride the Gondola. The Highlands Gondola is located directly next to the Northstar Lodge - Hyatt Residence Club across from the Village at Northstar on the upper level. It is not the Big Springs Gondola which accesses mid-mountain for skiing and mountain biking. The Highlands Gondola stops running at 8:00 p.m. so you must get on prior to that. From there you will take part in a hike down to the Lodge at Big Springs Deck. After you’ve experienced the wonder of the sky, the group will load onto a shuttle bus from mid-mountain at 10:30 p.m. and will return back to the Village at Northstar where your journey will end.

Helpful Hints

  • Please make sure to wear comfortable shoes since you will be hiking on a dirt trail for about 15 minutes.
  • A light sweater or jacket is suggested. The temperatures drop at night in the Sierra’s so we want you to be prepared.
  • Guests with disabilities will need special arrangements. Contact Amber Whitman, Special Events Manager, at 530.448.1513 to make plans in advance. We will have alternate routes for you to get to mid-mountain comfortably but only on an as-needed basis.
