Northstar at Tahoe Preparing for Arrival Checklist

Once You Get Here

Reasons to Arrive Early

  • Get fresh powder or corduroy!
  • More rental equipment is available early in the day
  • You will not be rushed to get to lessons

Parking

Northstar™ Resort's lifts operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ticket windows open one-half hour before lifts open. We offer valet services or preferred-parking.  Free parking is available west of the Village at Northstar™ or in the Castle Peak Park + Ride, behind the gas station, at the entrance of Northstar Drive.  Shuttle buses will whisk skiers and riders from the lots to the entrance of the Village!

Take a Lesson

This is the key to a great, successful day on the slopes. Like anything, you'll improve most when you receive some guidance from a pro. As a convenience to you, we offer one-stop shopping for first time beginners. You can pick up your lift ticket, rentals and lessons at the Village Northstar Rental Shop, located below the Northstar Club at the base of the Gondola.

Packages include lessons, rentals and lift ticket for beginner terrain (Arrow, Bear Paw, Gondola and Adult Magic Carpets).  First timer lessons start at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. daily.  Tickets available at the Rental Shops and ticket windows.

Rent Equipment

If you just need to rent equipment, we have two rental shops. One shop is located directly under the Northstar Club at the base of the gondola the other is located at mid mountain directly across from the Lodge at Big Springs. We also have high-end demo skis and snowboards available at the retail shops. Visit the Northstar Rentals and Demos for more information.

Purchase a Lift Ticket

Lift tickets are included with our First Time Beginner Packages. However, if you are not purchasing one of these lesson packages, you will need to purchase a lift ticket. You can purchase a lift ticket by visiting our Tickets and Season Pass Office adjacent to the ice-skating rink.

Store Your Belongings

If you are carrying extra clothing and gear, you can store your belongings in coin operated lockers or basket check in the Village or coin operated lockers at mid mountain.

Warm up + Warm down

Cold weather tends to make your muscles more stiff and sluggish than normal. Allow yourself time to acclimate to the mountain environment before you head up-mountain. A few warm-up exercises and stretches pay big performance dividends. If you stay out in the cold long after you stop exercising, your muscles will stiffen quickly. You can get chilled, even leave yourself vulnerable to a sniffle. Keep moving until you can get inside, take off a few layers, and relax.

Drink Plenty of Water

Sun, wind, perspiration and altitude rob your body of fluids. In fact, you can become dehydrated long before you even feel thirsty. Stop frequently for water or carry it with you. Coffee, tea and soda don't replenish your body fluids as well as juice or plain water.
