Northstar California Environmental Efforts

Northstar has been a proud recipient of the WRAP Award - the State of California's Waste Reduction Awards Program - for the past thirteen consecutive years.  This year, Northstar donated 350 wood pallets to a local firewood distributor for reuse as firewood.  Through recycling programs, reuse programs and using technology instead of paper, Northstar has diverted approximately 255 tons of material from the landfill.

Northstar and East West Partners have made a landmark agreement to generate millions of dollars to purchase and preserve open space in the Martis Valley located in North Lake Tahoe.  Through a real estate transfer fee of one-half percent to be paid on all new residential property sales and re-sales of the Northstar properties, both companies came to an agreement with non-profit environmental organizations Sierra Watch and Mountain Area Preservation Foundation.  The transfer fee set out by this agreement should raise over $30 million for open space in the Martis Valley over the next 25 years.

The Northstar Habitat Management Plan partnership is working to balance resort land uses with natural resources while providing for operations of a four-season resort.

Northstar's strong support of the local environment carries over onto the golf course.  The Audubon Signature Cooperative Sanctuary System designated the Northstar Golf Course as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.  This coveted environmental honor recognizes developments that have merged wildlife conservation, habitat enhancement, resource conservation, and environmental improvement with the economic agenda associated with the development.
