Tips

Figure Out Which Foot Leads on Your Snowboard

Since you are positioned on a snowboard sideways, one foot must be in front (the lead foot) while the other foot is in the back. If your left foot is in front, then you are "regular" and if your right foot is in front then you are "goofy". Here are some tips on figuring out which way you should stand on a snowboard:

  • The foot that stays on the ground while kicking a ball should be the lead foot.
  • Slide across a floor. Whichever foot naturally leads should also be your lead foot on your board.
  • Have someone gently push you from behind. Whichever foot you step forward with should be your front foot.

Riding Flats

The key to riding flats is to carry enough momentum to get yourself through them.

  • Use an edge: Apply just enough pressure on an edge to maintain direction without slowing down.
  • If there's a slight incline on the slope, pressure your uphill edge and stay on a higher traverse line.
  • Once familiar with the trail, prepare ahead: Carry enough speed into the flat to get you through it.
  • Keep turning to a minimum and look ahead
