Burton Snowboard Academy (Smaller Groups)

In partnership with Burton Snowboards, Northstar California is pleased to offer the Burton Snowboard Academy – a first-of-its-kind learning program designed to welcome new riders to the sport, encourage the progression of those already in the sport, and provide a customized experience built around an entirely new terrain-based teaching methodology.

All Day Lesson/Lift Package w/ Rental	$250
Includes a Burton snowboard rental, all day limited access lift ticket, and an all day lesson from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. for ages 7 and older. Students receive snowboard equipment at the Burton Snowboard Academy lounge at Mid Mountain.

All Day Lesson/Lift Package w/ Rental	$250
Adults (13+): Includes a Burton snowboard rental and an all day lesson from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. for ages 13 and older. Students receive snowboard equipment at the Burton Snowboard Academy lounge at Mid Mountain. Kid's (7 - 12): Includes a Burton snowboard rental, all day full access lift ticket, lunch, and an all day lesson from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. for ages 7 - 12. Students receive snowboard equipment at the Burton Snowboard Academy lounge at Mid Mountain.

The Difference The Burton Snowboard Academy is different than the Burton Learn to Ride (LTR) Program. Instructor:Student Ratio:  Burton Snowboard Academy 1:4 vs. LTR 1:6 (LTR class ratio's are not guaranteed and may exceed 8 students) Hands-On:   Hands-on involvement by the coach from fitting boots and a board to linking the first turns Terrain Features:  Exclusive use of mini rollers, mini halfpipe, and small banks. Equipment:  Demo Equipment, Red Helmets and Wrist Guards available free of charge Private Lounge:  Access to private Burton Snowboard Academy Lounge and firepits

THE TERRAIN

Coaches utilize Burton and Northstar's unique terrain-based learning style and movement-based techniques on a mini half pipe, mini rollers  and gentle banks designed specifically for beginners. The terrain is for you to get connected with. The Academy Terrain Area includes features that are designed to control speed and take the fear out of sliding down the hill while making moves to develop your unique style.

The slope helps you to turn and stop, reducing falls during your first few hours and allowing time to build confidence and trust in yourself, your coach, Burton's equipment and the snow. The Academy goals are to create a "no fear of learning" vibe and have you linking turns and loving the sport on your first day.

THE COACHES

Specially trained, hand-picked Snowboard Coaches provide innovative coaching methods to help you learn how to snowboard or improve with confidence and skill. You will have a fun customized experience, tailored to your ability and unique learning style, whether it is your first-time or you are already shredding all over the mountain. For progressing riders, we offer a terrain-based, goal-specific approach to trees, bumps, parks and pipes.

 

 

THE GEAR

First timers and beginners are setup with the latest gear: Burton Learn to Ride board, boots and bindings - specially designed for learning.  The Academy is equipped with a large selection of Burton's demo boards and bindings for you to choose from. Demo equipment and protective gear including helmets and wrist guards at no extra cost.

THE LOUNGE

Unlike any other learning center, the Burton Snowboard Academy provides a "full-immersion" snowboard experience with a comfortable lounge, large flat screen TVs and coffee bar. Picture yourself hanging out in a laid back environment, watching videos with your friends and your coach, living the life of snowboarder. You will even experience a private consultation with your coach in a video analysis station.

Located at mid mountain, the facility is dedicated for Academy participants only and provides an exclusive retreat from crowds. The facility includes couches, chairs, practice boards, free lockers, as well as men and women's restrooms.  Don't be surprised if you run into Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen or Heikki Sorsa, founding riders of the Burton Snowboard Academy.
