TRUCKEE, Calif. – Sept. 15, 2010 – As the winter season approaches, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is offering a variety of affordable kids' ski and snowboard team programs designed not only to help improve skills with the fundamentals of skiing and snowboarding, but to emphasize mountain etiquette, camaraderie and most of all, fun. Parents are encouraged to register their children now in order to take advantage of introductory pricing; rates increase after September 30, 2010.
All kids' team programs at Northstar Resort include an Unlimited Double Whammy season pass (valid any day of the 2010-2011 season, no restrictions) and training with Todd Kelly, Northstar Resort's Ski & Snowboard Team Manager and former U.S. Olympic Ski Team member and Chris Hargrave, Burton Snowboard Academy Manager, author of the ASI Freestyle Park and Pipe Guide, and trainer and coach of the High Cascade summer camps at Mt. Hood, OR. Programs include:
Pioneer Program – Ages 4-12
Geared toward the younger crowd (ages 4-12), the Pioneer Program was designed to allow for mastery of the entire mountain through fun and adventure. Training focuses on the fundamentals of skiing, introduction to gates, on-mountain etiquette, camaraderie with teammates and more. Tuition is $749 for the program offered all day both Saturday and Sunday from December 4, 2010-April 3, 2011 (excluding select holidays). Tuition for Sundays only is $429.
A new mid-week Pioneer Program geared toward youngsters ages 4-6 will also be offered for just $299 on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Ski Development – Ages 7-15
Offered weekends and designated holidays, the ski development program for ages 7-15 teaches race and free-skiing skills on Giant Slalom and Slalom courses. This group races in the Tahoe League Race Series and will be given the opportunity to compete at higher levels. Tuition is $1,249 and also includes Fast Pass lane access and a locker in the Team Room.
Competitive Ski Programs – Ages 9-19
Designed for the committed ski racer with the goal of becoming the best racers in the region, Northstar Resort's Competitive Ski Programs blend fun, free-skiing and racing development with gate training on Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom courses. Training is offered Wednesdays through Sundays and designated holidays. Tuition is $1,949 for J4/5 racers ages 9-12, $2,149 for J1-3 racers, ages 13-19, and includes Fast Pass lane access and access to a locker in the Team Room.
Ski and Snowboard Free Ride Programs – Ages 7-18
Ski and Snowboard Free Ride training programs include development and competitive team training focused on developing well-rounded skiers and riders by balancing free-skiing/riding skills for the terrain park, half pipe, slope style, and off-piste skiing/riding (no inverted maneuvers) with race techniques. Athletes compete in USASA, USSA Freeride and other local contests. Tuition costs are $1,249 for development team, which meets weekends and designated holidays, and $1,949 for competitive team, scheduled to meet Wednesdays through Sundays and designated holidays. Tuition for Free Ride Programs includes Fast Pass lane access and access to a locker in the Team Room.
Snowboard Start Lab (Development) – Ages 4-12
Snowboard Start Lab training focuses on the fundamentals of snowboarding, including introduction to gates, on-mountain etiquette and much more. A mid-week program is offered Wednesday and Friday afternoons for $299 for participants ages 4-6, and all day programs are offered on the weekends for ages 4-12. Tuition is $749 for those interested in Saturday and Sunday training, and $429 for Sundays only.
