FIVE THINGS TO DO UNDER $5 AT NORTHSTAR® RESORT THIS SUMMER

TRUCKEE, Calif. – June 1, 2009 – Whether you’re on a budget or just looking for a little added vacation value this summer, Northstar Resort near Lake Tahoe offers great ways to have fun without breaking the bank. Here are five ideas of things to do this summer under $5:

Scenic Lift Rides for Sightseeing and Hiking

Northstar Resort will resume its popular scenic chairlift rides for sightseeing and hiking this summer. Lift rides are just $5 for adults and are free for kids ages 12 and under. Lifts will operate for scenic lift rides and hiking Friday-Sunday until July 2 when it will open Thursday-Sunday through Labor Day weekend, and Friday-Sunday until October 18. Operating hours will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Fridays. And, Northstar Resort will offer free guided hikes (with purchase of lift ride ticket) on the days the lifts operate. Tours meet at 1:30 p.m. at the bottom of the Gondola by the information tent.

Roller Skating

Beginning June 12, Northstar Resort’s 9,000 square foot skating rink will be open from 1 p.m.-8 p.m. daily. It’s always free to access the rink, and skate rentals are just $5. Lace up your skates and get your groove on in the Village at Northstar Tuesday nights starting June 16 at Retro Skate Nights! Enjoy your favorite music from the 70's and 80's from 6pm-9pm through the end of August. A $50 cash prize for the grooviest retro apparel will be given out each week, and drink specials will be offered at the Cabana Bars.

TGI Thursdays

Thursday nights in the Village at Northstar are the ultimate affordable date night in North Lake Tahoe this summer, featuring free outdoor movie nights starting June 25 and TGI Thursday dining specials offered at participating restaurants. One of the most affordable deals this summer will be $3 fish tacos offered Thursday nights at Big Wave Burritos & Wraps. They’ll also feature $2 off happy hour drinks from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Other dining specials are offered at each of the Village at Northstar restaurants in celebration of TGI Thursday. Free outdoor movies will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights through the end of August.

$4 Bucket of Balls at the Driving Range

Grip it and rip it this summer at the driving range at Northstar Resort’s 18-hole golf course. For just $4 you can practice your swing on a small bucket of golf balls. Then, consider playing the course and enjoy the earliest twilight golf rates in North Lake Tahoe starting at 1 p.m. daily.

Free Guided Road Bike Rides and Mountain Bike Tours
Plaza Bikes in the Village at Northstar offers a free guided road bike ride Saturdays throughout the summer, starting June 20. Interested riders meet at Plaza Bikes at 5 p.m. for a two-hour ride that loops around the Tour de Nez road course twice (1200 feet of climbing) before returning to the Village at Northstar. All are encouraged to join this ride, however because of the amount of climbing and descending, some fitness and previous road riding experience is strongly encouraged. If the group is in agreement, other routes will be considered.

And, for those who want to get familiar with the Northstar Resort Mountain Bike Park, complimentary “Meet the Mountain” tours will be offered at 10:30 a.m. daily when the bike park is in operation, and will meet at the bottom of the Gondola at the information booth. Tours are suited to beginner and intermediate level riders.
