NORTHSTAR® RESORT WELCOMES ELENA HIGHT TO PROFESSIONAL FREESTYLE SNOWBOARD TEAM

Hight Joins Ranks of Other Top Athletes Including Jeremy Jones, Todd Richards, Andy Finch and More

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Dec. 15, 2008 – Elena Hight, one of the nation’s top female riders, has joined the Northstar Resort Professional Freestyle Team and will represent the resort as she competes in all three stops of the inaugural Winter Dew Tour and other high profile events this winter. Hight, a South Lake Tahoe local, is the first female professional rider to join the team which includes other professional snowboarders including Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen, Todd Richards, Chas Guldemond, Andy Finch, Eero Ettala and Heikki Sorsa. These athletes regularly represent Northstar Resort at prestigious events and in snowboard videos distributed worldwide.

“Our pro team consists of some of the most well known riders in the world, and we’re happy to welcome Elena to the family,” said Chris Castaneda, Northstar Resort Terrain Park Manager and Youth Marketing Manager. “Elena has been killing it in competition over the past few years and we’re pleased to have her as the first female professional rider on the team representing Northstar.”

Hight was the youngest female snowboarder to compete in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turino, Italy at age 16, where she placed sixth in Halfpipe. She continues to be a top competitor in Halfpipe competitions, and in 2008 placed first in the Vans Tahoe Cup Halfpipe, as well as first in the King of the Mountain Halfpipe. In 2007, Hight placed first in the Vans Tahoe Cup, third in the Winter X Games, third in the Mt. Bachelor Grand Prix and second in the Breckenridge Grand Prix Halfpipe contest.

Northstar Resort Pro Team athletes Chas Guldemond and Andy Finch also regularly compete in professional snowboarding competitions and rank among the top contenders. In 2008, Finch placed first in the Halfpipe contest at the O’Neill Evolution and Guldemond placed second in Slopestyle at the Burton European Open, and second in the Rail Jam at the Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails at Bear Mountain. Both Finch and Guldemond will be competing in all stops of the Winter Dew Tour this season.

“Growing up in Tahoe, I have had the opportunity to ride a lot of different mountains and Northstar has always been one of my favorite places to ride. I love spending days shredding there and have always looked up to all the riders on their team,” said Hight. “To be able to be a part of that amazing group of riders at such a great mountain is an incredible opportunity that I am so exited to have! I just cannot wait to get on the hill and ride with the team this year.”
