NORTHSTAR-AT-TAHOE™ RESORT OFFERS VARIETY OF NORDIC EVENTS, TOURS AND INSTRUCTION

Nordic Clinics, Tours and Races Make for an Active, Memorable Day in the Mountains

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Dec. 30, 2008 – This winter, Northstar® Resort’s Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center will be host to a variety of events including snowshoe races and snowshoe running clinics, monthly Telemark camps designed for skills improvement, skate ski clinics, and more. Catering to everyone from experts to first-timers interested in enjoying the mountains in a new way, Northstar Resort offers nearly 40km of groomed and tracked trails for stride and skate skiing, Telemark and snowshoeing.

Upcoming events include:

Snowshoe Running Clinic. Join us for a Snowshoe Running Clinic scheduled to take place January 3 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The clinic will be hosted by Julie Young, former U.S. National Team Cyclist, 2008 Winner of the Billy Dutton Uphill Snowshoe Race, Winner of the 2008 Marin Headlands 50K, Winner and record holder of the 2008 Tougher than Granite Trail 1/2 Marathon. The $25 clinic fee includes a cross-country trail pass and instruction including discussions on training tips, clothing, managing energy and fueling your body. Snowshoe rentals, including performance snowshoes will be available.

Telemark Camps. Learn how to Telemark or improve your skills. Camp costs are $139 for the full package, or $119 for season pass holders. Instruction will begin promptly at 10 a.m. January 4, February 1, March 8 and April 5, and will include an all access lift ticket, four hours of instruction, video analysis, PSIA manual, demo equipment if needed, and a lunch voucher to be used at Northstar Resort’s mid-mountain Day Lodge.

Moonlight Snowshoe Tours. Northstar’s popular moonlight snowshoe tours will be offered two consecutive nights each month beginning in January 2009, and are fun for all ages featuring a guided tour, live acoustic music, a bonfire, s’mores and hot cocoa. Tours meet at the Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center at 5 p.m. and cover approximately 5k of terrain. Cost to participate is $35 for ages 13+ and $25 for ages 12 and under. Snowshoe rentals are just $5.

Winter Trails Day. Join us for the 14th annual Winter Trails 2009. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Northstar Resort Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center will offer complimentary half day trail passes to encourage guests experience Nordic activities. Complimentary equipment rentals and a free classic clinic from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. will also be offered. Complimentary gondola passes will be available at the Season Pass & Tickets Office in the Village at Northstar™.

Snowshoe Races. Northstar Resort’s 2nd annual Snowshoe Races return this year, with the next event scheduled to take place January 11. This event is offered as a 5k Fun Walk/Run, a 10k Competitive Run or a 1k Kid’s Rising Star Rumble, and begins at 11:30 a.m.

And, this year, Northstar Resort’s final Snowshoe Race will be held in conjunction with the Tahoe Rim Tour and Race on January 25. This event will cover a half-marathon distance. Those interested in participating in the snowshoe race will register online at www.NorthstarAtTahoe.com or on-site the day of the race.

Rossignol Skate Clinic. The Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center has teamed up with Rossignol to host skate ski clinics January 17 and February 14. Taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the clinic is free with purchase of a trail pass and open to all abilities. Participants will learn the basics of skate technique before taking a closer look at the subtleties of efficiency and the use of technique through varied terrain.

Tahoe Rim Tour and Race. The Tahoe Rim Tour and Race is a point-to-point 30k course that on January 25, will begin at North Tahoe High School and finishes at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort. A one-of-a-kind event, the Tahoe Rim Tour is the only marathon distance classic race in the West. Featuring three distinct categories – a classic, skate ski and snowshoe (1/2 marathon) – proceeds from this event benefit the Far West Junior Nordic program. Registration for classic and skate divisions will be available online at www.farwestnordic.org.
 
And, for those interested in participating in an on-mountain treasure hunt, The North Face retail store in the Village at Northstar and the Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center have again teamed up to offer a geocaching adventure. Four snowshoe and four cross-country ski-oriented caches are positioned on the trails, ranging from easy to difficult. Caches include prizes such as resort gift cards and other items, with the value based on the difficulty of the cache. Two kid-friendly caches are also stashed, containing kid-friendly prizes. Cache coordinates are available at the Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center, as well as at The North Face store in the Village at Northstar. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are also available for rent at The North Face and the Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center.

The Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center is located at mid-mountain, to the left of the Vista Express Chairlift. Trail passes are available for just $25 at the Season Pass & Tickets Office in the Village at Northstar, and must be purchased before riding the Gondola. Northstar Resort’s cross-country trail system features warming huts and scenic picnic sites with views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains. Adventurers are encouraged to pack a lunch or pick up some gourmet picnic items in the Village at Northstar™. A limited selection of food and beverage items is also available at the Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center.
