First Fully Irrigated Downhill Bike Trail Now Open at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FIRST FULLY IRRIGATED DOWNHILL BIKE TRAIL NOW OPEN AT NORTHSTAR-AT-TAHOE™ RESORT

LiveWire Trail Boasts Numerous Jumps and Berm Turns, Fast, Smooth Surface for Superior Traction

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Sept. 6, 2007 – Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort will open its new signature LiveWire trail from top to bottom for the first time this weekend. The trail maintains an average of six feet in width and a grade ranging between six and nine percent. The first downhill bike trail of its kind, LiveWire features an irrigation system that runs the length of the trail. And, at almost two miles long with a vertical drop of over 1,100 feet, LiveWire features more than 45 tabletop jumps, large berm turns and a surface that is fast, smooth and tacky, giving riders superior traction without the dust.

“We are pleased to have LiveWire complete and open for riders to enjoy,” said Kyle Crezee, Northstar ™ Resort’s mountain bike park manager. “Our team has had a lot of fun building this trail and we look forward to developing more like this at the resort in the future.”

The trail was constructed by Northstar Resort’s full-time trail crew using a John Deere 450 bulldozer, an excavator, SWECO 480 bulldozer and thousands of hours of hand work. Designed for advanced and expert riders, LiveWire can be accessed off the top of the Tahoe Zephyr Express chairlift.

LiveWire contains six major sections that flow together and feature tabletops, hips, step ups, step downs and doubles for riders to air off of the entire way down. Watered daily with an additional “noon groom” conducted Friday through Sunday, Northstar Resort’s trail crew keeps the trail fast, smooth and tacky.

“LiveWire is one of the most fun downhill trails I’ve ridden. The entire trail has amazing traction and a lot of fast, big berms and user-friendly jumps that are great for different levels of riders with varying technical skill levels,” said Vic Marlow, professional rider. “The irrigation system on LiveWire is innovative, and something I think is going to be very popular with riders. Northstar has really stepped it up in the bike park this year. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.”

“Our goal was to build a fun trail that was smooth, fast and dust free. We’ve accomplished that feat this season and look forward to designing more trails like this in the future,” said Crezee. “Next season, we plan to add more beginner and intermediate terrain, coupled with the expansion of our advanced and expert terrain.”

Northstar Resort’s mountain bike park hours of operation are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Sunday, weather and conditions permitting, until October 7.

Helmets are required for all riders, and can be rented along with bikes and other equipment at the resort. Daily lift tickets are required for lift access and can be purchased for $39. Mountain bike park season passes are also available for $229.
