NORTHSTAR™ RESORT CROSS-COUNTRY, TELEMARK & SNOWSHOE CENTER OFFERS NEW CLINICS AND EVENTS FOR ALL LEVELS
Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Clinics, Tours and Races Offer Something for Everyone
TRUCKEE, Calif. – Jan. 22, 2008 – Home to one of the finest Cross-Country and Telemark Teaching Centers in North America, this season Northstar Resort has introduced new telemark and snowshoe clinics, tours and race events that appeal to everyone from experts to first timers interested in getting out and enjoying a memorable day in the mountains.
Offering nearly 40km of groomed trails for those who want to skate, stride or snowshoe, Northstar Resort’s varying terrain is suited for all ability levels. Complete with warming huts and scenic picnic sites with views of Lake Tahoe and surrounding mountain peaks, adventurers are encouraged to pack a lunch or pick up some gourmet picnic items in the Village at Northstar™ and enjoy the outdoors. Northstar Resort’s Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center offers unparalleled instruction, new Cross-Country rental equipment by Rossignol and snowshoe equipment by Atlas.
Upcoming Events:
• Snowshoe Running Clinic. Atlas Snowshoe athlete, Peter Fain, will host a clinic on January 26, 2008 focused on snowshoe running. Participants will learn core fundamentals for running on groomed trails, fresh snow, running in changing conditions, transitioning from groomers to fresh snow, and running hills.
• Tahoe Rim Nordic Race. Join us for the first Annual Tahoe Rim Tour on January 27, 2008! The Tahoe Rim Tour is a fundraiser for the Far West / Auburn Ski Club Junior Nordic programs. This 30km event starts at North Tahoe High School in Tahoe City and finishes at the Northstar Resort Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center. Classic wave start at 8:30 a.m., skate and snowshoe wave at 9 a.m. Participation is $40 in advance, $60 day of, and includes race registration, an aid station at the approximate mid-point, transportation for finishers back to Tahoe City, a light lunch and awards. • Snowshoe Series for Runners, Walkers and Kids. Northstar Resort will host this inaugural event – a unique, first-time event for the Tahoe region! Three separate courses, designed by Peter Fain, Atlas Snowshoe Racing Team Member, will include a 5K Fun Walk Run, a 10K Competitive Run, and a 1K Kid’s Rising Star Rumble. Race events will take place on February 3 and March 9. Participation is $25 in advance for 5K and 10K competitors, and $35 day of. Kids participating in the Rising Star Rumble are $15. Monetary and other prizes will be awarded to top winners in each category.
• Telemark 1-day Camps. Those interested in learning, improving or perfecting their telemark technique are invited to participate in Northstar Resort’s one-day Telemark Camps. These clinics are designed to help participants of every ability level become more efficient skiers, making for easier, more fluid skiing. Participation is $119 and includes a one-day access lift ticket, four hours of instruction, video analysis, use of demo equipment (if needed), a class ratio of less than six to one, and a lunch voucher valid for up to $10. Camp start at 10 a.m. and will be offered on February 10, March 9 and April 13, 2008.
• Rossignol Skate Clinic. This clinic will be offered on February 16 and will focus on the basis of the technique: body position, glide, and timing of effort, with the goal being to give skaters a sense of where they need to be on the ski in order to develop technique. Rossignol will have demo skis and boots available, however participants will need to bring poles. Those with their own equipment are encouraged to bring it. In addition to these clinics, camps and race events, Northstar Resort also offers monthly Full Moon Snowshoe Tours that are open to guests of all ages. These popular tours begin at 5:30 p.m., meet at the Northstar Resort Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center and include a 5km round-trip guided tour complete with bonfire, s’mores, live entertainment and more. Tours scheduled for the remainder of the season include February 19 and 20, 2008 and March 20 and 21, 2008. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling 530.562.2475.
The Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center is located at mid-mountain, to the left of the Vista Express Chairlift. Trail passes are available at the Season Pass & Tickets Office in the Village at Northstar, and must be purchased before riding the Gondola.
