NORTHSTAR-AT-TAHOE™ RESORT RAISES MORE THAN $41,000 IN CHARITABLE DONATIONS DURING THE 2006-07 WINTER SEASON

Excellence in Education, Tahoe Women’s Services, National Forestry Foundation, Truckee Community Christmas and Rock The Earth Among Beneficiaries

TRUCKEE, Calif. – May 31, 2007 – In an effort to support the local community and environmental sustainability efforts, Northstar™ Resort continued to find ways to contribute to charitable organizations on behalf of its employees and resort guests during the 2006-07 winter season. Assisting with the fundraising efforts for a number of local and environmental organizations, Northstar Resort raised more than $41,000 for programs including Excellence in Education, Tahoe Women’s Services, the National Forestry Foundation, Project MANA, Truckee Community Christmas, the Truckee Humane Society and Rock the Earth.

The resort also contributed non-monetary contributions including complimentary rental equipment to programs including the Adventure, Risk & Challenge Program benefiting English Language Learners (ELL) in the Truckee-Tahoe Unified School District.

“Assisting the local community and helping to preserve and protect the environment are two things Northstar Resort strongly values,” said Tim Silva, Northstar Resort’s general manager. “We are proud to have been able to help our local community this season and contribute in different ways to the sustainability of our environment. After all, the environment is our livelihood – we believe it is our responsibility to help protect it.”

The resort’s fundraising efforts throughout the season included:

Excellence in EducationNorthstar Resort hosted “Ski for Education Day” on Sunday, Jan. 7 to benefit Excellence in Education, a local education-based foundation that provides grants, resources and partnerships to benefit local schools. All 1,000 adult lift tickets donated by the resort were sold at Porter’s Ski and Snowboard shops for a discounted rate of $20. The resort donated a total of $20,000 to the local non-profit organization.

Truckee Community Christmas – In an annual tradition, Northstar Resort initiated a contest between employees on the mountain vs. those in the Village at Northstar™ aimed at which area of the resort could collect the largest contribution on behalf of Truckee Community Christmas. This season, the Village at Northstar and resort administration won. Northstar Resort employees donated $3,000 in food to Truckee Community Christmas, a local project that has helped hundreds of families and seniors at Christmas time with food, toys, gifts, warm coats and food gift cards.

Project MANA Food Bank – Project MANA (Making Adequate Nutrition Accessible) is the hunger relief organization serving the North and West Shores of Lake Tahoe and Truckee, which includes the coverage of three counties in Northern California and one county in Northern Nevada. Northstar Resort contributed $500 to this effort.

Cross-Country Races – Racers were invited to test their endurance as they raced through 15 kilometers of Northstar Resort’s cross-country trails in the Sawmill 15K cross-country race. The event sponsored the Far West Nordic Ski Education Foundation and was open to all ages and ability levels (junior competitors race 5K). In addition, on Feb. 15 and March 15, cross-country enthusiasts were invited to participate in a self-guided tour that began and ended at the Tahoe City Cross-Country Center and traveled through Northstar Resort’s cross-country trail system. Northstar Resort contributed more than $1000 to Far West and the National Forestry Foundation following these events.

National Forestry Foundation – In support of the National Forestry Foundation, Northstar Resort helps to support conservation projects on the National Forests of Lake Tahoe Basin. These projects include trail and forest recreation improvements, wildlife habitat and watershed restoration, and community-based forestry programs. When purchasing online through the resort’s website, season pass holders were invited to make a donation to the National Forestry Foundation. For every dollar, the foundation matched the gift with 50 cents. Those interested in making a contribution were able to choose from denominations of $1, $5 or $10.

Rock the Earth – On March 10, in conjunction with Tamas Estates Winery, Northstar Resort hosted a “highest ollie” snowboarding competition in which contestants had to jump over Tamas Estates wine barrels. Following the competition, the winery sponsored a private wine tasting and after party with $500 of the proceeds donated to Rock the Earth, a not-for-profit, national public interest environmental advocacy organization committed to protecting and defending America's natural resources through partnerships with the music industry and the world-wide environmental community.

Tahoe Women’s Services Ski Day – More than 500 skiers and snowboarders came out to support Tahoe Women’s Services on Sunday, April 1 at Northstar Resort. Full-day adult lift tickets were sold at a discounted price of $25, resulting in a total of $15,525 that was raised for the organization. Tahoe Women’s Services provides delivery of emergency food and shelter, counseling, legal assistance and advocacy to women and families in need. Heather Tone, Event Chairperson and Board of Directors member of Tahoe Women’s Services said, “without Northstar’s incredible generosity, this event would not be possible. Many vital services for women and children will be provided as a result of our success.”

Truckee Humane SocietyNorthstar Resort also raised $560 to benefit the Truckee Humane Society through the sale of pet “season pass” photos. The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of pets through adoption, community spay/neuter services and humane education programs.
