Activities and Events for All Ages Bring Skiers and Riders to the Mountains This Season
TRUCKEE, Calif. – March 5, 2007 – As the winter season pushes on and the snow continues to fall, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort’s event schedule has not slowed. Chock full of activities throughout the months of March and April, the resort will host myriad events for all ages including the full moon snowshoe tours, women’s ski/snowboard clinics, Cross-Country ski tours, discounted lift tickets for college students, and much more.
Superpass Event. Superpass events are a series of contests held throughout the winter at resorts across the nation. These trials lead up to the main Superpark event, giving riders a glimpse of what the real thing is like with more of a local, grassroots feel on their home turf. Invited riders will compete on March 6 in a Superpark session that will be judged throughout the day. Winter Blue Adventure Race. Taking place at Northstar™ Resort on Sunday, March 11, the Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race is an event in which teams of two participate and compete in activities including free heel skiing, snowshoeing, navigation, and map and compass skills. The course is designed so participating teams finish within three to six hours, and will not only challenge seasoned racers, but offer those new to the sport the opportunity to participate and compete. Women’s Ski/Ride Clinic. Taught by top certified female instructors, Northstar Resort’s women’s clinics include three full days of instruction, demo equipment, lunch, video analysis, yoga classes, wine tasting, and more! Beginner to expert skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to participate. Clinics will be held from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. March 14 - 16, 2007, and are priced at just $459. Tahoe City to Northstar Resort Cross-Country Tour. Enjoy the fresh air on this self-guided Cross-Country tour, Thursday, March 15. The tour begins and ends at the Tahoe City Cross-Country Center. Tahoe City Trail Pass, Northstar Resort Trail Pass, and lift voucher to return to the top of Mt. Pluto are included. Registration takes place at the Tahoe City Cross-Country Center from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. The cost to participate is $20, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the National Forestry Foundation.
St. Patrick’s Day. Find the hidden clovers to retrieve some “gold” on the mountain and in the Village at Northstar™. Guests can also enjoy traditional corn beef and cabbage at the Summit Deck and Grille, as well as other St. Patty’s Day festivities.
Pinball Rally. Northstar Resort’s Pinball Rally amateur freestyle event series is open to all ages with a $10 participation fee. March 18 will feature a slopestyle event, with divisions including men/women, skiers/riders, 14 & under, and 15 & over, all with the chance to win medals and raffle prizes donated by event sponsors. Registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the day of each event, and will be located at the top of the Big Springs Gondola in the Main Street Expo area.
Great Chef’s Race. Northstar Resort challenges the culinary skills and snowsport abilities of local restaurateurs and their employees on Tuesday, March 20, during this fun-filled and often humorous event. Consisting of two parts, racing and cooking, each team will have four people with at least one female member or a man dressed in drag. Between racing on skis or a snowboard and preparing/presenting dishes derived from ingredients presented that day, guests won’t want to miss this event. Registration will take place in the Activities Center from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m. The cost for participation is $75 per team.
Cross-Country Wine Tour. This scenic outing includes sampling of California’s finest wines overlooking the Martis Valley. Taking place Sunday, March 25, the Cross-Country Wine Tour will include a 6km guided tour, wine and light fare. The wine tour will feature the Coppola winery and their new Directors Cut. Tahoe Women’s Services Ski Day. Northstar Resort has set aside Sunday, April 1 as a benefit day for Tahoe Women's Services. Purchase a $25 lift ticket from Tahoe Women's Services and 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to Tahoe Women’s Services. Tickets must be pre-purchased. Full Moon Guided Snowshoe Tours. Offered at the beginning of each month during the winter season (April 1) for only $25. Snowshoe rentals are available for an additional $5. Tours will depart from the Village at Northstar at 6 p.m., and will cover approximately 5km of terrain. Guests will enjoy hot chocolate and s’mores along the way, and a bonfire in the meadows. USASA National Championships. The United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) will host the 18th Annual USASA National Championship April 1-5 at Northstar Resort. This highly recognized event will bring more than 1,300 athletes and their families and friends to the North Lake Tahoe region for a week of competition and daily festivities. Each of the 35 USASA Regional Series will qualify snowboarders and freestyle skiers to compete in five events; Giant Slalom, Slalom, Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Boardercross®. Easter Festivities. Northstar Resort will host Easter festivities on Sunday, April 8 with a fun obstacle course especially designed for kids on the slopes (participants must have a lift ticket). Other activities will include a raw egg toss, and an Easter Egg Hunt. Guests who want to combine a great day on the slopes with church on Easter Sunday can attend an interdenominational worship service at the top of Vista Express chairlift at 2:00 p.m.
