COLD TEMPERATURES RESULT IN GREAT SNOW CONDITIONS FOR SKIERS AND RIDERS COMING TO LAKE TAHOE

Northstar™ Resort and Sierra™ Resort Offer Some of the Best Conditions Around the Lake

Superpipe at Northstar Resort, Burton Progression Parks and New Terrain Park Features Now Open

TRUCKEE and SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Jan. 22, 2007 – Cold temperatures and clear skies have created dry snow and are allowing Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort and Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort to offer some of the best skiing and riding conditions on both the North and South Shores of Lake Tahoe. Because much of the terrain at both resorts faces North, and the sun is sitting low in the sky at this time of the year, the snow is not severely impacted by the sunlight – helping the resorts maintain excellent conditions.

Known for its wind-protected slopes and the fact that it sits in a canyon, the direction the slopes face at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort prevent them from being scoured and help to maintain good snow quality. Sierra Resort’s commitment to consistent, quality grooming complements these benefits, allowing skiers and riders of all abilities the pleasure of carving perfectly groomed corduroy.

Northstar Resort not only boasts wind protected slopes, but also has the largest snowmaking system on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, effectively covering 50 percent of its 79 trails with snowmaking and ensuring optimal snow conditions for skiers and riders visiting the resort. With the cold temperatures the area has been experiencing, the resort has been able to continue making snow daily, adding to an already fantastic product.

Both Northstar Resort and Sierra Resort’s park crews are working very hard to keep terrain parks that cater to jibbers of all abilities fresh. Northstar Resort has continued to make snow on Pinball, and currently has the park open with more than 27 terrain features. The Burton Progression Park satellite features on Snowboard Alley are also open, offering jumps, boxes and rails that are low to the ground in non-intimidating fashion for those who want to get started hitting terrain park features. Sierra Resort’s park crew has The Circuit and parks on Upper Main, Aspen West and The Alley in top shape, along with its new Burton Progression Park. In addition, Northstar Resort’s 420-foot Superpipe is also open, offering skiers and riders one of the first pipes in Lake Tahoe.

With great snow quality and coverage, open roads and an easy drive up to the Sierras, the time is right for beginners interested in learning how to ski or snowboard. The snow is soft and easy to carve, and crews at both resorts continue to demonstrate their strong commitment to grooming terrain for all ability levels.
