
2009 Tara Llanes Classic 3 race results
On Saturday September 1, 2007, the BMX and mountain biking worlds suffered a tremendous tragedy while competing in the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Beaver Creek Colorado. Tara Llanes, suffered a horrific crash during the first run of her semi-final heat. Following seven hours of surgery to the back and spinal cord, it was determined she had no feeling from the waist down. Proceeds of the Tara Llanes Classic mountain bike race will go towards the Tara Llanes Road to Recovery Fund and the Reeve-Irvine Research Center to find a cure for spinal cord injury.
Race Course, Categories + Prizes
• Mega DH - 10+ minute of double track, fire road and lot of single track
• All ages and categories can race and there will be a cash Pro Purse split equally between the men and women.
In addition to the race, there will be an expo at mid-mountain both days, two bike clinics on Saturday, a video screenings and a BBQ Saturday night in the mid-mountain Day Lodge, raffles throughout the weekend and more!
Ride Like Rando and Riffle Clinics!
Giant Bicycle World Cup downhillers Jared Rando and Duncan Riffle will be offering two downhill clinics on Saturday October 2, 2010. One will be geared to beginner and intermediate riders and the second will be for intermediate and advanced riders. Both will cost $40 and there is a participant limit of 15.
The beginner/intermediate session will kick off at 10:30 a.m.. Jared and Duncan will walk you through bike handling basics and bike prep as well as take you on a ride where they will help you work out the kinks. If you do well here maybe you'd like to sign up for the second session as well! The advanced/intermediate session will begin at 1:30 p.m.. Jared and Duncan will talk about their experiences and strategies for descending at speed and will even ride the race course with you. They will also figure out what each rider needs to work on and get you riding faster in no time! You will learn loads and have a really fun time doing it.
Race Fee + Registration
Donation to race is $35 for beginners, sport, and expert and $45 for pros. Northstar® Resort will offer discounted lift tickets of $20 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday to registered riders through the weekend.
Registration for the race and tickets for the weekend's activities will be available soon on the Northstar at Tahoe eStore, through the Season Pass & Tickets Office or through Plaza Bikes. Stay tuned!
