On Saturday September 1, 2007, the BMX and mountain biking worlds suffered a tremendous tragedy while competing in the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Beaver Creek Colorado. Tara Llanes, suffered a horrific crash during the first run of her semi-final heat. Following seven hours of surgery to the back and spinal cord, it was determined she had no feeling from the waist down.

Let's race for Tara at Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort on October 11, 2009!
All ages and categories can race and there will be a $2,500 Pro Purse split equally between the men and women.
In addition to the race, there will be an expo at mid-mountain both days, two bike clinics on Saturday, a mechanic clinic on Saturday, two video screenings and a party Saturday night in the Village, raffles throughout the weekend and more!
Ride Like Rando - Downhill Clinics
Giant Bicycle World Cup downhiller and all around great guy Jared Rando will be offering 2 downhill clinics. Both are on Saturday October 10th. The first will at 10:30am and a second session at 1:30pm. The cost is $40 each session limit 15 per session. Jared will be assisted by Duncan Riffle a downhiller that is equally talented and has traveled the World Cup circuit racing downhill for the GiantNerd World Cup Downhill Team. You can sign up at Plaza bikes in the Northstar Village or at the Season Pass & Tickets Office. All proceeds go to Race for Tara 3.
This is a great opportunity to learn from two of the top riders in the world. Rando is very experienced not only on the World Cup level, but also in teaching high-level clinics. He is a fantastic instructor and has taught many in his hometown of Canberra, Australia.
The first session of the day will kick off at 10:30am and will be geared more toward the Beginner and Intermediate Downhiller. Jared with walk you through bike handling basics and bike prep as well as take you on a ride where he will help you work out the kinks. I f you do well here maybe you’d like to sign-up for the second session???
The second session will begin at 1:30pm and is for the more Intermediate and Advanced rider. Yes even the advanced rider could really learn from a top level Pro like Rando. Jared will talk about his experiences and strategies for descending at speed and will even ride the race course with you. You will learn loads and have a really fun time doing it.
Men, Women and juniors are welcome. Jared and Duncan will figure out what each rider needs to work on and get you riding faster in no time! Please meet at the Giant Team Trailer and come prepared with all your appropriate riding gear.

Wrench Like a Pro! - Mechanic Clinic
Giant Bicycles World Cup mechanic and Giant team manager Frank Trotter will cover DH bike set up and maintenance as well as answer your questions. This is a great opportunity to talk with a true expert in suspension and bike set up. Learn from the absolute best, with over 10 years on the world cup circuit Frank is one of the most respected mechanics in the industry.
Frank will be at the Giant team truck, which will be set up at Mid-Mountain. The clinic is on Saturday, October 10th at 3pm and will last about 45 minutes to an hour. Please get there 10 minutes early so that Frank doesn’t have to do the whole repeat instructions kinda thing. There is no limit to sign-ups. The donation is $5 which Frank will collect on-site! All proceeds go to the Tara Llanes Road to Recovery Fund.
